unprotect .dir files

Hello,

I have recently got Director MX 2004, because I want to create Shockwave
movies, and because I want to convert a .dir file to a stand-alone application.
But when I tried to open the .dir file, it says it is protected and cannot be
opened!
Can .dir files be protected? I thought only .dxr movies were protected...
:confused; and if so, is there any way I can unprotect the file?

Are you sure it isn't a protected file that has had the extension
re-named to dir?

I don't know... I renamed the file to .dxr and tried to open with director, and
the error is the same... I downloaded the file with .dir extension, but maybe
the real extension is .dxr...

Anyway, is there any method to convert it to a stand-alone application?

Am I correct in thinking that you're wanting to present this file as
your own work?

Not at all! I just want to play the shockwave game I have in my school
computer. It doesn't have shockwave installed and I can't install it too (it
has a protection against modifying winodws registry...), so I don't know what
to do!

Everyone there knows the game and know that I haven't done it.... :P

You could try making a fast-start stub projector and having it 'go to
movie "filename"'. Depending on any "protection" put in the file by the
original author, it may or may not work. Short of that, you'll need to
contact the original developer. Also, you'll have to figure out which
xtras it needs.

I tried without sucess... :(

I have been thinking... Is there any standalone shockwave player that can open director files the same way as internet explorer?

Not that I'm aware of - and what you describe is basically what I was
suggesting you try to do.
How large is the file and can you upload it somewhere?

The file size is 127kb. You can download it http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0424289901/table_tennis.dxr.

If you have any news, please tell me. :)
